Super Win's HTML Notepad v4.0 *expiration patch*
Eliminates the 30 run limit and shareware text
but not the opening nag (about) screen.
Where to get it:
http://www.winsite.com/cgi-bin/dload/41/win3/winsock/htmlpad6.zip
Author's Homepage: http://superwin.com/
Instructions: Unzip the patcher (htmNP4-c.exe) into the directory
where you installed the program. Then just double click
on this file. You will see a DOS window pop up and some
text appear in the window. The window will then automat-
ically close. In the program directory where you ran the
patch, you should see that file date of the (now)patched
program has changed to the current date. Also, a new file
will be created in that directory. This is an unpatched
copy of the file that was patched, and will have the same
root filename but the extension will be either .OLD or .BAK
When you're done, you may delete the patch file (htmNP4-c.exe)
What the patch does: Patches the program executable. Patching is process
that involves changing the value of some of the program
bytes in a way that "neutralizes" or bypasses the
program's protection.
Why is this patcher larger (~45 Kb) than others I've used?
The patch was created using a program called MDiff. The way
this program is coded, it produces patches that are a minimum
of around 43 Kb.
Notes: Use this patch ONLY on v4.0. The patch will NOT work
on other versions or builds of the program. For those
of you who would rather not use a patcher if possible,
here's the info concerning the protection. Simply deleting
the pertinent file will renew your 30 run evaluation period.
The program creates a file in the \Windows\System\ directory
named "sys128.dll", a 5 byte text file containing an ASCII
symbol in quotes. The file originally will have the symbol "╜"
(alt+1089 on the keyboard). With each use of the program, the
symbol changes to the character with a value that is one less
than the previous (see below). The initial symbol is regarded
by the program as "30". It counts down until it gets to the
space " " symbol (alt+1060). After that the program won't run
anymore.

You will see the number of runs remaining displayed on the nag screen
each time you run the program. When the runs get low or are used up,
just go to your \Windows\System\ directory and delete the "sys128.dll"
file and the counter will start over again. Repeat as necessary.
Patched using MDiff for Windows patcher. Thanks PC;-)
