One of WinAmp's many great features is its ability to wear skins. There are
hundreds, if not thousands, of skins available over the Internet. Now, you
can make your own with WinAmp Skin Maker, or Skinner. The program offers
the fastest way to create attractive, multi-colored skins using your own
Bitmap and JPEG images.
The process involves only a few simple steps, and Skinner will automatically
send your creation to the WinAmp Skin Browser. To conserve system resources,
each skin in your collection can be saved as a ZIP file. The program is
similar to ICQ Plus, the popular skin creator for ICQ.
While the program is fairly easy to use, there are a few formatting requirements
for images. Bitmap and JPEG images must be rendered in 24-bit TrueColor and
have a size of 275x116 pixels or more. This is nothing a commercial or freeware
image editor can't handle. The program includes a few editing features itself,
including the ability to change scale, brightness and contrast properties.
Once you make the skin, you can alter and modify anything on the WinAmp
display. Skinner offers a few excellent skin templates to make buttons
transparent and multi-dimensional.
