Info: The Cygnus hex editor, is a program designed to view and edit
files that contain any combination of text and non-text data.
While the program emphasizes fast and simple operation,
it offers some unusually powerful features for a program of
its type. These features include multilevel undo/redo, extensive
drag and drop support, overstrike and insert modes, and fast
searching, just to name a few.
Unlike a text editor, which is designed to edit files that
contain only text characters, Cygnus displays files as a
stream of bytes. Each byte is displayed both in hexadecimal
notation and as a text character. The hexadecimal and character
displays are separated into two columns that form the heart of
the edit window.
Files that contain non-text characters are sometimes referred
to as binary files. Most files on your system can probably be
classified as binary files. Binary files include executable files,
data files, help files, etc. Cygnus is a general-purpose
application that will allow you to edit files of any type.
While Cygnus can be used by anyone, it is especially useful
for technically-oriented users who need access to files that
were not necessarily designed to be edited.
