│ [[ Application information ]]
│ PortFlash is a tool for network administrators and computer security
│ professionals.
│ It scans through a list or range of IP addresses and ports looking for
│ running services such as FTP or HTTP. This is useful to in determining
│ both if authorized services are functioning and also if there are
│ unauthorized services running. If someone on the network has setup a
│ rogue FTP or HTTP server, PortFlash can detect it.
│
│ PortFlash is straightforward and easy to use: You define a range or list
of
│ IP addresses and ports to be scanned and then begin the scan.
│ PortFlash will go through each IP address checking the ports specified
│ and when it finds an open port it will report back. If the open port it
finds
│ is in the list of known ports it will inform you which services are
generally
│ run on that port. PortFlash can also optionally ping an IP address first
│ before scanning it (to determine if a system is running on the IP). It can
│ also run a DNS reverse lookup on each IP to determine the domain
│ name assigned to each IP address.
