"Don't just ignore the Spam problem with Spam filters. Take
a proactive approach with SPAMReporter! SPAMReporter is a
powerful tool to help you contact the offenders ISP and shut
them down. Stop Unsolicited Commercial Email (UCE) that is
increasingly becoming a deterrent to the effective use of
email. The vast majority of SPAM that you receive in your inbox
does not come directly from the Spammer but comes from an
innocent Internet user whose computer has been compromised by
these Spammers. This is done either by utilizing the a
misconfigured mail or proxy server, infecting the user with a
special virus or trojan, or by traditional 'hacking' of the
system. SPAMReporter can now detect an unsecured proxy or mail
server. Reducing the time the Abuse department needs to spend
investigating. Most ISPs User Acceptance Policy (UAP) or Terms
of Service clearly spell out that this activity is not condoned.
Whether the user is deliberately spamming or is an innocent
pawn used by the real spammer, and when identified, the ISP will
usually close or suspend their account until a resolution to the
problem is accepted. The result? Less spam for us. Spam Reporter
works by attempting to identify the originating Internet Protocol
(IP) address by means of the Internet email header. Much of this
information is routinely forgedhe clever spammer in an attempt to
throw us off their trail. Unlike other reporting tools, Spam
Reporter actively attempts to determine which of the header
information is fake and which is genuine. Once Spam Reporter
determines the originating IP address, it will then attempt to
find contact information for the owner of that IP. This generally
is the ISP. Once an email address of the ISP is found, a complaint
email is created with all the information the ISP requires to
identify its user. All you have to do, is click on Send."
