DirectiXer (pronounced direct-eye-zer) is a VST adapter for DirectX
host applications. The program wraps VST plugins so that they can be
used in DirectX host applications, such as Cakewalk SONAR, Sonic
Foundry Vegas and SoundForge, Syntrillium CoolEdit, SEK'D Samplitude
and many others. DirectiXer fully supports VST 2.1 instruments,
exposing them as DXi2 instruments, and parameter automation recording
and playback (host support is required). The program offers flexible
per-plugin option settings and routing capabilities. Supported are
both float and fixed point audio formats. DirectiXer also supports
internal plugin presets and VST bank (FXB) and program (FXP) files,
and automatically compensates VST plugins delay ("latency"). With
DirectiXer, you can have the best of both VST and DirectX worlds:
DirectX, and especially the mature DXi and emerging DXi2 standards,
versatility, and greater number of VST plugins and instruments
already available on the market. DirectiXer has a unique capability
of sending MIDI data originated in a VSTi plugin back to host through
a virtual MIDI input port. This is an indispensable feature for
Steinberg Groove Agent users, and makes things easier if you are
running Midifier.
In this release, plugin delay compensation is introduced. This
feature is fully transparent: if a VST plugin reports to DirectiXer
that it has latency, then DirectiXer compensates for it during
bounce.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To compensate latency, DirectiXer inputs audio, but
does not output it for a while, since, because of the latency, there
is nothing to output. The only legal way for DirectiXer to borrow
memory to store audio temporarily is from SONAR, its host. If latency
is too high, then the host may run out of audio buffers and stop
streaming. This happens with SIR, for one example. If you get a
dropout with such a plugin when starting playback or bounce, then
*increase latency in SONAR audio options*. SIR alone works with
latency settng as small as 10ms, however, the more
latency-compensated plugins are there in the project, the larger
buffer size you may need to set. This is a remedy only to drop outs
that occur *immediately* and *consistently* when starting audio flow
through the project.
Timing quality for VST instruments has been improved significantly.
This should fix the "dropping measures" Groove Agent problem.
Fixed bugs:
-----------
- Waldorf Attack hangs loading some banks
- Waldorf Attack randomly locks up SONAR
- Devine Machine VSTi does not sound
- Linplug Albino clicks with chorus/delay on
- reFX Beast and XPhrase make no sound
There were also a few lesser compatibility fixes and enhancements,
too numerous to list.
