What is it? Automated system cleaner. Preconfigured to clean
browser cache, cookies, and history lists, Windows
Temp folders, Documents folder, etc. Also supports
cleaning of 20 user-defined "items". Each item
may specify multiple folders, files, and registry
keys/values to be cleaned.
Shareware Limitations:
1. Program ceases to function 30 days after installation.
2. Cleaning of the Recycle Bin is disabled.
Effects of Patching:
1. 30 day expiration is eliminated.
2. Patching does NOT enable direct cleaning of the Recycle
Bin by way of the check box item on the program's GUI.
The code pertaining to this function has changed often
with previous versions, making it a poor candidate for
scan patching. Nevertheless, you can easily configure
WindowWasher to clean your Recycle Bin(s) on every wash.
Simply create a new wash item that contains the path(s)
to your Recycle Bin, or add the path to one of your
existing wash items. Note thate you'll need to add the
path separately for each of your hard drive partitions.
For example, C:\RECYCLE BIN\*.*, D:\RECYCLE BIN\*.*, etc.
Instructions:
1. Close the WindowWasher program if you have it running.
2. Unzip the patcher (ww2xscan.exe) to the directory where you
installed the WindowWasher program.
3. Double click on the patcher (ww2xscan.exe).
It's scans pretty slowly so it may take 20 - 30 seconds to
finish the scanning/patching process.
4. When finished you may delete the patcher (ww2xscan.exe), but
you probably want to keep a copy of it since it should remain
effective for future revisions/versions of the program.
5. Configure a Recycle Bin wash item, as outlined above (OPTIONAL)
6. No need to enter any reg info (in fact, you can't).
You then have a fully functional program.
NOTES: This patcher has been tested on at least one revision of
each subrelease of version 2.xx of Washer.exe, and has
been effective in all cases. You should know that the
author favors some rather unusual interpretations of the
words "version" and "revision". For example, the currently
available WindowWasher distribution (Version 2.6 revision 2)
has been revised and rereleased a minimum of 4 times now.
Despite the excellent reviews that the program routinely
receives from numerous shareware sites, the program doesn't
perform nearly as well as it's supposed to. Most problematic
is the fact that it STILL doesn't process registry keys
properly. Namely, it often deletes only the first registry
reference in a *.WW2 configuration file, and disregards the
rest. At times, it will actually CREATE new registry keys
that bear some fragment of the path statement it was trying
to process.
